Time seems to go by so quickly! We are already 6 months into this year’s NGO program here in Ethiopia. As Bro. Jemal, our NGO’s director, writes:
“God has given us a big assignment to do! I would like to share one thing with all of you: We have been given a great opportunity in this RBW NGO – these precious children, their families and the widows, to share with them the reality of God. God has brought these children, their families and the widows to us in order to accomplish His purpose in each of our lives and theirs. Thank God for all of this.”
In the month of July we again had three meetings with the children, their mothers and the widows. In these meetings we have discussed the children’s health and their report cards. We are also teaching them how to help their children and raise them in proper ways. Our new social worker, Sew Harage Mokenen, is very good at teaching the children. She uses Biblical stories, coloring pages and singing. The children like it and are very happy. She also visits their homes to monitor the situation and help each child, mother and widow. Her enthusiasm for this work is quite refreshing.
We have collected the children’s report cards, looked over the results and discussed them with their families. The children are on a break at the moment, but when they start back to school in September, our goal is that they will see the need to be very diligent with their studies.
We have also started distribution of food and staples for the 3rd quarter. In addition to these, we have also started to buy school materials, uniforms, school bags, and exercise books. We have purchased clothes and shoes and distributed them to each family.
As we have mentioned before, we want to see the lives of these children, mothers and widows improve and taken out of the state of poverty. This is one of the reasons we are working with the children to see the value of their education. The ladies were able to make some more bracelets that are being sold and money are being added to their newly set-up savings accounts. What a marvelous reward to see the big smiles of appreciation on their faces.
