It has been very exciting to know that after so many years of hardship the school has started. As of yesterday, we have 24 children: 13 in the Junior Secondary Section (Grades 7&8), 6 in the Elementary School and 5 in the Kindergarten. We have 6 teachers on board and it may be necessary to employ 2 more. The fees are quite low and for the number of children we have at the moment, the school fees will not be able to cover payment of salaries and operational cost. So we will have to make it up with our own resources. We are still praying that more children will come so that we can save all our money to continue the buildings.
In spite of the above, we are very glad to have started. This is a big achievement given all we have passed through. The people who live in the neighborhood are very happy that they now have a good school. We have not heard anything from the villagers who owned the land before we bought it and who gave us so much trouble. I am praying that they will not bother us anymore and will even send their children to us for school. The village is a bit far from the location of the school (about 10 km) and since the school is a day school for now, it may not be convenient for them for now. Next year, we will open up the dormitories and the students in the secondary section can live there on the school premises. The school is built next to a government low cost housing complex and most of the children come from this place.
We know clearly that God answered our prayers concerning Firstfruits Christian Academy.
