We come to you once again rejoicing as we watch God moving through His people. This Ethiopian NGO (non-governmental organization) has been functioning since January and we are grateful to report that much progress has been made. Presently the NGO program is helping 3 widows, plus 12 children and their single mothers.
In April, once again, the single mothers and their children, as well as the widows received teff flour, which is a staple for them to make injera (white leavened Ethiopian bread), wheat flour, edible oil and soap. The children are in school and as they participate in the extra tutorial classes provided by the NGO, many of them have improved in their scholastic abilities. There were four meetings held in April in order to teach the ladies how to wisely use the food given to them as well as basic hygiene practices. They are also receiving instructions how to encourage their children in school.
In addition to the activities mentioned above, our first social worker has been hired. His main responsibility is to visit the families on a regular basis to insure their well-being. He also keeps in touch with the children’s school in order to monitor the children’s progress. This new member of our team is a welcome addition to the program as he has a sincere desire to see the ladies and children learn how to better their lives.
As we have stated before, our goal in the Ethiopian NGO is to give the ladies and children a new future through hope, care and education. Children are getting a good schooling and the mothers are learning a meaningful trade that will enable them to make a living. Presently our three widows are enrolled in a program that teaches knitting, sewing and other handmade items that will enable them get jobs. We have also been working with all these ladies on making bead bracelets. They are eager to learn and are doing well in the classes.
We mentioned before that the NGO rented a small two-room office. We are happy to report that we were able to purchase a desk and a few chairs. It is a real blessing to have this place as it allows us to work from a central location.
We thank everyone for their faithful prayer support. The reward of seeing the smiles of the recipients of this NGO is marvelous. We continue to look to God for His direction in all we do. We will keep you posted as the new ideas on how to help our ladies acquire more skills unfold.
God bless you all,
The Ethiopian NGO Staff
