The project in Port Harcourt is a boarding secondary school for both boys and girls from age 11 to 17. A primary section is also being considered. The school is scheduled to start in September 2011. We will start with two levels (grades 7&8) and each year we will add a year. For instance, in 2011 we will have Grades 7-8 and in September 2012, we will have Grades 7-9 and continue like this till we get to grade 12 which is the end of the secondary education cycle.
We have all the architectural plans ready for Classrooms, Dormitories, Offices, Cafeteria, accommodation for key staff members. Being that it is a big project, we are taking it in phases. The main classroom block has been roofed, doors, windows have been installed and the ground floor of another block has been built too. We are now working on the interiors: flooring and installation of restrooms. We are going to finish up and use this existing space for classrooms, dormitories, offices and accommodation for a few young teachers. We would have liked to put up the principal’s accommodation but we do not think this is financially feasible at the moment.
So for this first phase: we still have the flooring and painting to do. We also need to put in the furniture for an integrated Science Laboratory, Home Management Lab, Classrooms, Offices, dormitories. Another important need is an electricity Generator and a minibus.
Flyers has been sent out calling for applications for the post of Principal, teachers and support staff members. For now we have mainly circulated the announcement among brethren in the different fellowships in Nigeria. By God’s grace, we will conduct the first set of interviews for staff at the end of February. Still in February, we will circulate the announcement to a wider audience and expect to do a screening test for pupils in April. Our main prayer point now is for the pupils. The whole project is for them and we pray that the Lord will send a large number.
